Witness the site of Jesus’ baptism, Elijah’s Hill, Mount Nebo, where Moses gazed over the Promised Land and so much more. Together, we will explore Egypt’s greatest archaeological treasures, best preserved temples, historical tombs and an unforgettable private Nile River Cruise. ITINERARY
DAY 1: THURSDAY, JULY 22 (OFF WE GO!) Our once in a lifetime experience begins in Orange City, IA with a deluxe motor coach transfer to the Minneapolis Airport with your Siouxland Travel personal guide. We will depart from Minneapolis directly to Amman, Jordan.
DAY 2: FRIDAY, JULY 23 (AMMAN, JORDAN) Welcome to Jordan! Upon arrival at Queen Alia Int’l Airport, we will transfer to our hotel in Amman. In the evening, gather for a welcome orientation to set the tone for our spiritual journey. (B,D)
DAY 3: SATURDAY, JULY 24 (JERASH—MOUNT NEBO-MADABA) Explore Jerash, one of the best-preserved Roman cities in the Middle East. Here, we visit Mount Nebo, where Moses viewed the Promised Land, and the mosaic rich town of Madaba, home of the famous Holy Land map in the Church of St. George. We’ll stay over night at a Dead Sea Hotel. (B,D)
DAY 4: SUNDAY, JULY 25 (BETHANY) Explore Bethany Beyond the Jordan, the site of Jesus’ baptism. Nearby, view Elijah’s Hill, where the prophet ascended to heaven in a chariot of fire. We’ll end the day floating in the mineral-rich water of the Dead Sea. Enjoy local hospitality and lunch with members of the Lutheran community. Enjoy dinner before we drive to Petra for the night. DAY 5: MONDAY, JULY 26 (PETRA, THE ROSE-RED CITY) Spend the day taking in Petra, the legendary Nabataean city carved into sandstone cliffs. Enter through the winding Siq and behold the magnificent Treasury (Al-Khazneh), the Street of Facades, Royal Tombs, and (optional) climb to the Monastery. Evening flight to Cairo. (B,D)
DAY 6: TUESDAY, JULY 27 (GRAND EGYPTIAN MUSEUM & GIZA PYRAMIDS) Begin the day with the Grand Egyptian museum (GEM) to view Egypt’s greatest archaeological treasures, including the complete collection of King Tutankhamun. We’ll continue to Giza Plateau to admire the great Pyramids and the Sphinx. We will spend the night in Giza. (B,D)
DAY 7: WEDNESDAY, JULY 28 (SAQQARA, THE PYRAMID OF UNAS & THE SERAPEUM) Visit Saqqara, site of the Step Pyramid of Djoser. Continue to the Pyramid of Unas, Serapeum and the underground burial place of the sacred Apis bulls. (B,D)
DAY 8: THURSDAY, JULY 29 (GARBAGE VILLAGE, CAVE CHURCH, ROYAL MUMMIES AT NMEC) The first stop today is Manshiyat Naser, “Garbage Village,” & the magnificent Cave Church of St. Simon, carved in the cliffs of Mokattam. Continue to the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization (NMEC) to witness the Royal Mummies Hall, home to Egypt’s greatest ancient kings and queens. (B,D)
DAY 9: FRIDAY, JULY 30 (SAQQARA & MEMPHIS-FLIGHT TO ASWAN EMBARK ON A NILE CRUISE SHIP) Rise and shine! After breakfast, take a flight to Aswan, board and prepare for a 3- day private Nile cruise. We will spend the night on the cruise ship for the next three nights as we travel through these biblical/historic areas. (B,L,D)
DAY 10: SATURDAY, JULY 31 (KOM OMBO & PHILAE TEMPLE, HIGH DAM) Relax as we sail and delve into Aswan, visit Philae Temple and stop at Kom Ombo Temple, an unusual double temple where we will discover a blend of religion, healing, and kingship in the Ptolemaic period. We will have dinner and stay overnight on our cruise ship. (B,L,D)
DAY 11: SUNDAY, AUGUST 1, (KARNAK & LUXOR TEMPLES & SOLAR ECLIPSE) Today combines the grandeur ancient city of Thebes with the special Eclipse experience. Tour the massive Karnak Temple, home to the Hypostyle Hall & Sacred Lake. Revel in a visit to Luxor temple, connected to Karnak via the Avenue of Sphinx. Overnight is aboard our Nile Cruise ship. DAY 12: MONDAY, AUGUST 2 (LUXOR WEST BANK, BIBLICAL & HISTORICAL EXPLORATION, FLY BACK TO CAIRO) Explore the treasures of the West Bank:
- Valley of the Kings-tombs of Tutankhamun, Ramses VI, Seti I
- Ramesseum-Mortuary Temple of Ramses II
- Medinet Habu-Temple of Ramses III-includes vivid battle scenes
- Valley of the Queens-Tomb of Queen Nefertari the most beautifully painted tomb in Egypt
In the evening, a flight will take us back to Cairo. (B,D)
DAY 13: TUESDAY, AUGUST 3 (DEPART FROM CAIRO) After breakfast, we’ll transfer to the Cairo Int’l Airport for our flight to Minneapolis. A private motor coach will transport us from Minneapolis back to Orange City.
