WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 18 (TARANGIRE)
Rise to the African sun as the day begins. We drive to the third-largest national park in Tanzania—Tarangire National Park. Our first stop explores Tanzanian culture at the Tanzanian World Heritage Center. Then, we go on game drives across the savannah plains in search of zebras, elands, antelopes, impalas, gazelles, and the rare species of kudus. See large herds of elephants and massive baobab trees—both well-known highlights of Tarangire National Park. Later in the afternoon, we will transfer to our overnight stay located in the stunning Lake Manyara National Park, at our luxury hotel set on the edge of a mountain valley. (B, L, D)
THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 19 (LAKE MANYARA NATIONAL PARK/MARERA VALLEY)
After breakfast at our lodge, we will depart for a candid, close-up look at African coffee growing and roasting. We’ll experience the unexpected ways nature keeps elephants away from fruits and nuts, along with observing authentic hand-crafted wood carvings. After experiencing unforgettable Tanzanian hospitality, we’ll spend the remainder of the day enjoying the vast skies of Africa while relaxing on the patio and by the pool of our lodge to close out the day. (B, L, D)
FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 20 (NGORONGORO CRATER)
After breakfast at our lodge, we will depart for the Ngorongoro Crater. With its 5,000-foot-high walls, the crater is like a natural zoo, home to one of the highest concentrations of wild animals in Africa. We will descend into this massive crater as early as possible to attempt sightings of rare animals like the black rhino. If we are lucky, we may even spot the Big Five (the African savanna elephant, Cape buffalo, leopard, lion, and black rhinoceros) all in one day. To end the day, enjoy breathtaking views from the crater rim and a panoramic dinner at sunset. (B, L, D)
SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 21 (NDUTU PLAINS/SOUTHERN SERENGETI)
Following breakfast at the lodge, we are off to the Ndutu Plains and Southern Serengeti. The Serengeti is a vast plain stretching 11,583 square miles from Kenya to the Maasai Mara Game Reserve. It is home to over two million hoofed animals, 4,000 lions, 1,000 leopards, 550 cheetahs, and 500 bird species! We will drive to the Lake Ndutu area, where the action takes place during the months of December through March. Along the way, learn first-hand about the lifestyle of the indigenous Maasai. A picnic lunch is followed by an afternoon safari before settling into our luxury tented camp, surrounded by the magical sounds of the African wilderness. (B, L, D)
SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 22 (NDUTU PLAINS CALVING SAFARI)
This day will be spent on the southern Serengeti plains, where the wildebeest migration gives birth to thousands of calves daily. These expansive plains, rich with green pastures and mineral soils, are a feast for grazing herds. We are sure to see hundreds of thousands of wildebeests accompanied by zebras and gazelles. We may even have the rare chance to witness dramatic wildlife action as predators engage the herds. Our evening will again end with nature revealing the quietness of the African savannah while we relax fireside. Tranquility extraordinaire. (B, L, D)
MONDAY, FEBRUARY 23 (SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK)
Rise and shine! If you choose, enjoy a sunrise hot air balloon ride as you watch wildlife awaken from their slumber. Top off your balloon flight with the traditional champagne toast. Today, we will explore the UNESCO World Heritage Site—the Serengeti—and all it has to offer. We will enjoy a full day of game drives in the Mara region with hippo pools, close-up wildlife encounters, and the Maasai Kopjes. Have those cameras ready! (B, L, D)
TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 24 (SERENGETI/KILIMANJARO)
Following breakfast, we will head to Seronera Airstrip with game drives along the way. At this authentic African airstrip, we’ll board our flight to Arusha and continue to our beautiful mountainside destination for the remainder of the tour. Upon arrival at our delightful African mountain view resort, we will have the day to relax, enjoy the magnificent views, the tropical climate, and perhaps explore on your own or enjoy poolside respite. (B, D)
WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 25 (KILIMANJARO/DEPARTURE)
Today we take in the majestic presence of Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest free-standing mountain in the world, rising above the African plains.
